Love One Another
One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with this question: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself." All the law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Matthew 22:35-40
The Pharisees, who had classified over 600 laws, often tried to distinguish the more important from a less important. So one of them, an "expert in the law," asked Jesus to identify the most important law. Jesus quoted from Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18. By fulfilling these two commandments, we keep all the others. They, in fact, summarize the entire 10 Commandments. Jesus says that if we truly love God and our neighbor, we will naturally keep these commandments. Far too many people would rather look at God's law and worry about all we should not do, instead of focusing on all we can do to show our love for God and others. I submit to you that the reason the world is in such dire trouble today is because we have made so little over this great commandment. Remember: "Love covers a multitude of sins." Begin walking forward in this commandment today and see how God responds. God Bless you, J.H.
