True Love

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

This is what true love is. Love demonstrated by God is always directed outward, never inward. It is utterly unselfish. It is not concerned about its own needs and wants, but only about the needs and wants of others. For us, this kind of love goes completely against our natural inclinations. It is natural for us to think about ourselves first, and others second. But that is not God's will. Jesus did not die on the cross because he was thinking about Himself. He died on the cross because He was thinking about you. The world knows no greater love than this: than he who lays his life down for his friends. It becomes possible to practice this kind of love only if God helps us to put aside our own desires and instincts, so that we can give love to others as we should, while expecting nothing in return. That is the key. The more we pray, the more we become like Christ, the more love we will be able to give other people, and the more we will be able to follow God's will. God Bless you, J.H.
